Transforming Entry
MCLEAN, virginia
Working collaboratively with architect Dorothy Murdoch allowed us to fully address the architectural and landscape elements of this project, creating a unified, practical, and aesthetically charming entry and garden for our Virginia clients. An original entry stoop and dangerously steep stairs were replaced with a generous landing and a three-direction stair allowing for easy access to the garage and driveway, the terrace garden, and the vegetable and fruit beds.
An arbor made of wood and painted steel piping provides shade and structure for lush vines over the front door. Vegetable and berry-producing garden plots are incorporated into the design as a grid of raised beds, complementing the rectangular paving of the terrace. Lush perennial beds along with buffers of evergreen trees and shrubs give privacy from the busy street.
